Built to game more.
Built to game better.
OwlOS is ARC's operating system, designed to make portable gaming feel faster, simpler and more unified.
Built on the Android Open Source Project, OwlOS combines the openness and scale of Android with a controller-first interface, system-level performance optimisation and access to games across platforms.
This is not Android placed inside a gaming device.
It is an operating system being rebuilt around how people actually play.
OwlOS in action
Red Dead Redemption
Games are increasingly moving beyond individual consoles, stores and operating systems.
Players now move between native games, cloud libraries, remote-play systems, independent titles and experiences built for entirely different hardware architectures. But the operating systems underneath these devices were rarely designed to bring all of this together.
It needs an operating system designed around controllers, performance efficiency, instant access and the freedom to play across different formats.
That is the thesis behind OwlOS.
You cannot build the future of gaming by simply carrying forward systems designed for the past.
AOSP gives OwlOS a modern, efficient and globally supported foundation.
Its ARM-native architecture allows us to build around power-efficient processors, established developer frameworks and a massive software ecosystem. It also gives us the flexibility to change the experience at the system level instead of simply adding another launcher on top.
But AOSP alone is incomplete for a dedicated gaming device.
It does not inherently understand physical controllers, game libraries, sustained performance, thermal limits or the way players move between different gaming services.
OwlOS builds the missing gaming layer.

OwlOS is being designed to reduce the boundaries between different gaming experiences.
OwlOS does not assume that every game must come from the same platform.
It is being built for a world where the player matters more than the storefront.
Most operating systems must support thousands of unrelated hardware configurations.
OwlOS is being developed alongside ARC's hardware.
That allows the system to understand the device as a whole:
This integration gives ARC greater control over performance, responsiveness and the overall gaming experience.
The hardware and operating system are not separate products.
They are one gaming system.
OwlOS begins with ARC X1, but its potential extends beyond a single device.
OwlOS is being built around three long-term principles.
OwlOS is still evolving.
Every prototype, performance test, compatibility experiment and community session helps us understand what a truly gaming-first operating system should become.
We are not trying to recreate an existing console interface.
We are building a new foundation for portable gaming.
Game more. Game better.
